Domaining and everything else…

Been Busy Lately…

I have been quite busy these few weeks due to my day job routines and other activities, so I didn’t have much time to update this blog until today.

As far as for my domaining activity, I actually have several ideas in developing some of the domain names I own.

One of the ideas crossed my mind is by having an affiliate online store type of websites, mainly for my product domain names. I’ve read the related posting about this here, but maybe I will try to do it myself by using the WordPress platform. The reason why I want to do it myself, I can learn new things along the way, but it may require more time and effort, especially since I do it for the first time.

Well, I will share about this development project later, once I have finished it for one of the domain names.

So stay tuned!

The Power of Having Your Own Name (Dot) Com

Besides the sense of "coolness" by having your own name (dot) com, my other motivation in acquiring it is after I read the post of Brian Diener from Teen Domainer.  If you have not heard about him, he is the real teen domainer since he is only just 16 years old. But being young doesn’t mean he’s lacking the knowledge about the domaining industry, I myself frequent read his blog posts to find new ideas about the domaining world.

Brian points out about the importance about having your own name (dot) com here, and share his ideas about what to do with it here. Well for me, once I found out that my name (dot) com is available, I grabbed it immediately and use it to as this blog name.

After a few days (I say only a few days), this blog has appeared on the first page of Google. Altough it still not on the top search result yet (still on the bottom part), I believe it will reach that position soon if I update this blog frequently, which hopefully I would…:)

Use Google Alerts to Stay Updated

One way to stay updated with the latest news and information in the domaining industry is by setting up your own Google Alerts. Some of yo u may have known about this tool, but some may have not even heard about it. For those in the second category, let me just briefly show you how to set up your own Google Alerts

First go to this address: http://www.google.com/alerts

Google Alerts 1(1) Use Google Alerts to Stay Updated

Put your desired search terms (keywords), e.g: domain names

Decide the type of the information you want, e.g: news. blogs, web, comprehensive, video or groups

Set the frequency of the alerts, e.g: as-it-happens, once a day or once a week

Key in the email address you want the information to be sent to

For me, the settings are:

a. Search Terms = Domain Names

b. Type = Comprehensive

c. How often  = Once a Day

d. Your email = your email address

Below is the example of the daily Alerts sent to my email address

Use Google Alerts to Stay Updated

You can also use this tool to provide you with other topics that interest you. Just play around with the keywords to get the information you want to see (you can set more than one Alerts and put several keywords for each Alerts setting)

Long holiday….

This week is a long holiday here in Indonesia, due to the "Hari Raya Idul Fitri" or Eid. With most of population here are Moslem, no wonder this becomes a great festive season to the whole nation.

During this time, most people will "Mudik" or go back to their hometown, where they can meet their families, friends and relatives. Eventough I’ m not a Moslem, I also go back to my hometown in Bandung from Jakarta, to spend my holiday here. The distance between Bandung and Jakarta is only around 2 hours driving. Due to this short distance, there are lots of people from Jakarta visiting Bandung during the weekend, and the number is increasing significantly during the holiday period like now.

Having a long holiday means I have again more time to do one of my interest, which is domaining. Although at the moment I only do this domaining thing as a hobby (an educated hobby, I guess), I will do this more seriously than before. This is one reason I create this blog, so I can further establish my online presence and create mutual relationship with other domainers elsewhere.

Well I hope everything goes well and I wish the domaining future is very bright for us all.

Cheers!

Essociate Affiliate Program

I have just found an interesting post on DotWeekly about this Essociate affiliate program. The interesting thing that one of the company included is SnapNames. It has been known that SnapNames has its own affiliate program and only until last August that it joins Essociate as one of the so called "Sponsor".

Besides SnapNames there are two other domain related sponsor in Essociate, namely HuntingMoon, PDDW (Pending Delete Domain Watcher) and IPAlert (which is part of PDDW network).

In addition to those companies, there are also other non domain related business join Essociate network, so you can find ones which suitable for your website / blog.

Joining Essociate is free, so why wait? Just join this network and use it to increase your website / blog earning potential!
